2012 Client Newsletter

Hello friends!  I hope you and your families are doing well.  Last March I was informed by my landlord that I had to move out of my office, as the building had been sold and the new owner had other plans for the small office spaces upstairs.  Clients who came to see me since I moved won’t have a problem finding me.  For the rest of you, I am about a half-mile from the old building on Hill Field Rd.  To get there, you proceed east on Antelope past my old building to the stop light on Hill Field Rd.  Take a left, and go approximately 200 yds until you get to 2275 N.  Turn left (west), and then take an immediate right into the parking lot.  There are three ‘L’ shaped office buildings.  They are directly across the street from the tennis courts at Northridge High School.  I am in the first building as you enter the parking lot in #102, which is marked 2297 N.   I share the ‘Precision Home Loans’ office.  There is an office with the name ‘Precision Diagnostic Services’ in the middle building which happens to be #102 also.  That’s not where I’m at.  This can be confusing.  Just remember that my building is the first one as you enter the parking lot.  This is a very nice place and you don’t have to walk far from the parking area to get to my office.  No stair climbing or elevators!  I’m sure you will appreciate that.  Every time I move it gets better (and more expensive for me)!

As you know all too well, the economy hasn’t improved much and we’re all paying more for everything.  It seems like the only thing that isn’t going up is our pay, but I’m very thankful to have a job.  I sincerely hope things are going better for you.  My wife’s MS is still keeping her from enjoying life.  We just had another MRI done and there weren’t any new lesions (or spots) in her brain from the last MRI 18 months ago, so we’re happy about that.  We both sincerely appreciate your concern for her health.  Both of my kids graduated this past year.  My son, Ryan received his Masters degree from the University of Southern California Fullerton, and my daughter, Stephanie graduated from Weber State with a Bachelors degree in English.  Now that I’m eligible to retire from my government job, it’s a good feeling to know that I can leave at any time.  One of these days I will retire and just concentrate on my tax business, but not yet.

REFERRALS:  I helped several new clients last year.  It’s all because of the wonderful clients I have who pass my name on to their friends and family.  A referral is the highest compliment you can possibly give me.  I sincerely appreciate all referrals and will continue to give you a $10 credit for each of your family and friends’ returns I prepare that you send my way.  If, by chance, I owe you any referral credits from last year, please let me know at our appointment and I’ll take care of you.

DIRECTIONS TO MY OFFICE:  Please remember that I’ve moved to a new location.  A few clients went to the old office building on Main Street last year, so I’m sure there will be a few who don’t read this.  If you have any questions about how to get there, please call me or email.

APPOINTMENTS:  I will be available for appointments starting Saturday morning, January 21, 2012.   As always, you can make an online appointment request through my website, www.sandbergtax.com.  Select the Appointments link to check my calendar and see what fits your schedule best.  Then fill out the appointment request form and submit it.  Be sure to put your email address on the form so I can send a confirmation back to you.  I will send you an email within 24 hours to confirm our appointment and will enter your name on the calendar.  If you forget what day and time your appointment is, you can go back and look at my calendar.  Your submissions do not update my calendar automatically.  Check my website often for changes to my schedule and news.   If you can’t or don’t want to request an appointment through my website, please call me at 801-928-9642 and leave a message if I don’t answer.  I’ll get right back to you quickly.  You can also request an appointment by sending me an email.  If you have my old email address as djsandberg@comcast.net in your contact list, please change it to dave@sandbergtax.com as I dropped my Comcast account this last year.  I’m looking forward to helping you again this year!

ORGANIZER:  Enclosed with this letter is your personal tax organizer that I want you to use to get ready for our appointment.  Yes, it can be a pain.  No, it is not hard to fill out.  It contains the information on income and deductions I collected from you last year which is shown in the column under 2010.   There is a place under the 2011 column to enter your new information.  Change anything that is missing or incorrect on your family’s personal information.  Fill it out as thoroughly as you can.  The more thorough you are in preparing your info for our appointment, the more accurate your return will be!  Please bring the organizer with you to our appointment.  Do not fill out information on the organizer from your W-2 forms, 1099 forms or other tax documents you bring with you.  I will use them in the preparation of your return.  Please bring all important tax information along with the organizer you’ve received in the mail or have printed from employers, banks, brokers, mortgage companies, or other financial institutions to our scheduled appointment.  Please be aware that some credit unions and banks don’t send you a year-end statement on your interest you earned.  Go online and get the information before our appointment.  Let me know if you contributed to a Roth or traditional IRA.  If you bought or sold a home during 2011, please bring your closing papers with you on the sale and purchase of the old and new homes.  It will be important for spouses to attend our appointment in order to have you both sign the electronic filing paperwork.  If a spouse doesn’t come to the appointment, I will need to have you take the signature form home, have your spouse sign it, and mail it back to me before I will be able to electronically file your return.  This can delay your refund so please bring him or her with you!  It will save time!  I will try to prepare most returns in one appointment again this year.  If you have a business, rental properties or many investment transactions, I will usually need to make a return appointment with you because it takes more time to prepare your return.

GETTING READY:   I have been working hard to get ready for tax season this year.  I attended 17 classes at the annual Internal Revenue Service Tax Forum for preparers in Orlando last July (Orlando in July is murder!).  I also attended an IRS and Utah State Tax Commission seminar in Salt Lake City in November.  I will be taking my tax preparation competency test this next year and must take 15 hours of continuing education each year to maintain my ‘Registered Tax Return Preparer’ status with the IRS.  I plan to continue preparing returns for many years to come.  I guarantee your satisfaction or your money back!

Be sure to visit www.sandbergtax.com prior to our appointment.  Request your appointment and see what’s new.  There is a lot of great information there to help you understand the tax process.  It’s a tool available for your convenience.  If you have any questions, please call or email me!  Thanks!
